About
Hi, I am David Barr. I grow up in Huntsville Alabama, went to Huntsville High School and University of Alabama in Huntsville. For 45 years I worked as an Electrical Engineer designing high speed vision processors, automated guided vehicles and worked on developing safety standards for Industrial Driverless Vehicles. When my son entered into high school he joined the West Ottawa robotics team WoBots FRC 141.
The WoBots asked for some technical help and I joined the team as a mentor. In 1975. I was drafted into the FIRST Robotics organization. Since than I have been a coach/mentor to a number of teams, provided technical support to FRC and FTC teams and volunteered at FRC, FTC and FLL events.
After20 years of support to FIRST teams I am getting older and it is time to transfer my tasks and knowledge to the next generation. To help with the continuation and growth of FIRST I wanted to setup funding to help new FIRST teams. The Barr Family FIRST Grant is an unrestricted grant to provide teams funds for registration fees, parts, supplies, tools, transportation and taxes of the FLL and FTC team and robot. In memory of my daughter Carina Barr I wanted the Barr Family Grant structured to help small starting teams and teams that promote women in engineering.
